Welcome to Mill Cottages & Midlands Forest Lodge
In the heart of the KZN Midlands Meander, Terry and Di Acres are the owners of two magnificent properties – Mill Cottages and Midlands Forest Lodge.
Situated 3,5km apart from each other, each property boasts its own special Midlands perspective:
Mill Cottages, a historical estate comprising a restaurant, and three Victorian-style cottages in a country garden setting on the Lions and Impafana Rivers;
Midlands Forest Lodge with eight timber log cabin chalets is perched high on the Balgowan hills on the edge of fifteen hectares of pristine indigenous mist-belt forest.
Bookings, for either of these properties, are done through a central reservations office which is based at Mill Cottages on the Midlands Meander.

This well-known restaurant is a landmark in the area. It is a first class, well priced establishment offering comfort food with a few interesting twists. Dishes are freshly prepared and served in a settling only the Midlands can offer. Peruse our á-la-carte menu while listening to the Lion’s River tumbling down the waterfall.
Midlands Forest Lodge is perched high up on the edge of luscious green hills and slopes. This tranquil and secluded hillside retreat lives up to its name by bordering on pristine indigenous forest where fauna and flora abound and a natural sanctuary to numerous species of birds exists. At an altitude of 1340m, one can survey the unspoilt beauty of the Midlands valley from one of 12 well appointed suites. Utmost care has been taken in making the cosy log cabins blend harmoniously with nature. Enjoy a leisurely walk on the escarpment or, for the more adventurous, explore the forest with its towering giant yellowwood trees.
Three wood and iron cottages were built on the property as Mill Manager houses for the Caversham Mill. They date from the early 1900s, and the original style has been preserved in order to maintain their historical heritage. Surrounded by shady trees and beautiful azaleas, the cottages are secluded and private, ensuring guests a tranquil and relaxing visit.
