Our Location

In the province of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, Mill Cottages and Midlands Forest Lodge are 3.5km apart. Both properties are exceptional in their own ways. Mill Cottages is situated on the confluence of the Lions and Impafana rivers, and Midlands Forest Lodge boasts 15 hectares of magnificent indigenous mist belt forest.

Directions to Midlands Forest Lodge

From Durban: From the N3, take the Howick/Tweedie offramp.  Turn left at the top of the offramp.  Continue to T junction.  Turn right to Nottingham Rd.  After ± 7km take the Caversham turnoff to the right onto a dirt road.  Travel straight for ± 8,5km. Midlands Forest Lodge is on the left.

Approximate travelling time from Durban to Midlands Forest Lodge: 1,5 hours.

Directions from Durban

From Johannesburg: From the N3, take the Balgowan/Curry’s Post offramp.  Turn right at top of offramp and travel 3,8km.  Veer left at the fork in the road.  Continue for ± 1km.  Midlands Forest Lodge is on the right.

Approximate travelling time from Johannesburg to Midlands Forest Lodge: 5 hours.

Caversham Mill is situated on the confluence of the Lions and Impafana rivers, and Midlands Forest Lodge boasts 15 hectares of magnificent indigenous mist belt forest. the Area

Caversham Mill and Midlands Forest Lodge are situated in the heart of the Midlands Meander, a 50km arts and craft route offering a large variety of beautiful hand made goods. Shop for gorgeous turned wooden bowls and boards, exquisite beadwork, jewellery and embroidered ware, ceramic pots of every shape and size, glassware and stained glass goods, lavender oils and soaps, leather ware – the list is endless.

Our Activities

Both Caversham Mill and Midlands Forest Lodge are  a paradise for birdwatchers, from Orioles to Gymnogenes. Other sports in the near vicinity include hiking, horse riding, swimming (the Midmar Mile is an annual event), tubing, golf, polo, biking, hot air ballooning and much more.

Eating Out

Caversham Mill Restaurant over looks the Lions River waterfall and the historical site of the original Caversham Mill. It is a well-priced establishment open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, teas and drinks. Dinner is served from Wednesday through to Saturday. There are also other eateries and pubs along the Midlands Meander waiting to be explored and experienced.

Historical Interest

The history of the area is fascinating for enthusiasts, and includes historical sites and anecdotes of Voortrekker, Bushmen/San, Boer and British significance. Michaelhouse, a top private school with stunning architecture is a mere 8km from Caversham Mill.
