Homemade, comfort food

This well-known restaurant is a landmark in the area. It is a first-class, well priced establishment offering comfort food with a few interesting  twists. Dishes are freshly prepared and served in a settling only the KZN Midlands can offer. Peruse our á-la-carte menu while listening to the Lion’s River tumbling down the waterfall.

As Eat Out magazine recently put it; “this is comfort food at its homemade, freshly prepared best.” Breakfast, lunch and intimate dinners are prepared using only fresh locally produced ingredients. By using local and where possible organic produce we make sure that we provide our community with the support it  deserves. The menu changes with the seasons to ensure freshness, and to provide the kitchen with a chance to impress guests with new ideas. Enjoy a pre-prandial glass of bubbles, or a refreshing cocktail in the bar, on the deck overlooking the gorgeous Midlands Meander surrounds while listening to the sounds of the local birdlife. Soak in the history and ambiance around the first watermill built in the area.

Beautiful situation. Visiting here and when I went it was very quiet but I have heard only good things about the live music! Can't wait to go back when it's busy😍

What a wonderful place to enjoy and unwind. Beautiful view of the midlands. Self catering but a restaurant in walking distance.

Impeccable setting with the mill infront.Venue looks like it needs an uplift, but incredible service. Homely food.
Simply: Fine dining that is simultaneously posh & heartfelt. The long story:Arrived on a long weekend without a reservation-silly me; and our sincere host Clint still welcomed us to drinks and the view- lucky me, someone failed to honor their reservation and it was simply fate.Received a complimentary dessert after a soulful meal and genuine interaction with a graceful host and the ambience of the rushing lions river. Slightly off the beaten path that is the midlands meander these days, which was ultimately a hidden gem worth every effort.

Wow what an amazing experience! Clint, thank you, you are such a thoughtful and wonderful host. We enjoyed my Mom's 80th birthday in the most beautiful setting with great food. The food was really amazing. We will definitely be back.

If you're a fan of mediocre food served with a hint of condescension at exorbitant prices, then you'll love this. It's a beautiful location though. Go for a drink and enjoy the view.Edit: please see owner’s response. It appears they can’t afford eating out at nice places. That explains their disconnect with reality.

What an experience.... Dining with a waterfall in front, makes you can't help but marvel at the splendor.... Delicious food, we tried the veggie / fish options which was satisfying, delicious and the perfect lunch stopover... Idyllic setting although staff seemed a bit over exerted with the need for more waiters to cater for the holiday onslaught of diners.... A wonderful relaxed vibe though and nothing happens quickly here or needs to. We will definitely be visiting again.

The location is beautiful and you can see trout jumping up the waterfall - with drinks and seats out by the water to enjoy the views. The location is not a good place for kids to play as there is no fence or barrier between the rushing water and the grassy lounge area. The facilities were nice, though the breaker kept tripping while we were there. Larger groups can be accommodated and kids are welcome, but you have to ask if there is something available for kids to eat as it's not listed anywhere. No one explained to us how the menu works at first so we waited a little bit before being able to order (there is no printed menu as they like to change it regularly). The menu is on chalkboards on the walls...we just didn't realise that's what those were. The service was REALLY slow. There were only two guys serving all the tables and the kitchen seemed slow. We ended up spending much more time there than intended because if this. Thankfully it was a pretty environment, but the wait was too long and there is no real safe place for kids to play.Unfortunately, though it's beautiful and the food was good...the long wait and unsafe location for kids will keep us from returning. Would maybe recommend to others, but with this review in mind...

Beautiful, historical setting with a small and intriguing menu and a wonderful wine selection. The lamb shank was one of the specials for the day and, It.Was. Incredible, tender and generous in flavour. The Hand Burger was perfectly cooked and definitely NOT out of a box. The staff were kind and efficient. We’ll certainly be back to sample more of your menu.

We have visited the Mill for the last 19 years, with fond memories of an old world charm setting and excellent food. Sadly, new ownership delivers on neither. Now serving pub-grub, in a less than inspired interior, the food is decidedly average, at best, and comes at a hefty price tag. Sorry to say, but we will probably not go back.
